Patrice Douglas released her current fund raising amounts to date, saying there is “growing momentum and grassroots support” for her conservative campaign, “We are honored that supporters representing all parts of the state have donated in excess of $215,000 to our efforts,” Douglas said. “I'm excited. We started from $0 and our fund raising efforts are far from over. We’ve only just begun, but to come this far so quickly shows that business leaders and grassroots voters are responding to our message of balancing necessary protections for consumers, while opposing burdensome federal and state regulations that stall economic activity and kill jobs.”

Moving Oklahoma an Integral Part of the Job

 

There is one industry that literally moves Oklahoma. Whether it is the fresh produce that feeds your family, or the gasoline that fuels your car, Oklahoma has thousands of trucks moving on its roads daily, delivering goods to your hometown. It is the responsibility of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to regulate certain aspects of this transport.

How many trucks travel through Oklahoma on a daily basis?According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, about 7,000 per day enter and leave on I-35. More than 6,000 per day is the average on I-40.At the other entry points, 10,000 a day is the norm. Keeping them moving to and from Oklahoma businesses is critical our state’s well-being. Enforcing the regulations is critical to the safety of our citizens.

Most Oklahomans may be like my son, Phillip. As a family, we talked about my new role as a commissioner, and Phillip’s comments were insightful. He said, “I don’t even know what a commissioner is.” Unlike my prior role as mayor, the title of “Corporation Commissioner” is not self-explanatory.

Oklahoma’s Corporation Commission has responsibilities that cover the spectrum – from regulation of pipelines and utilities to day-to-day matters involving our oil and gas industry. And every day, the commission affects the lives of Oklahomans. Whether it is your telephone service or the drilling you see down the road, the commission is at work.
